Raw recording of the fireplace with some logs burning and crackling. Unfortunately the metal making up the insert was expanding and contracting, and some of those noises are present as well. Possibly useful as some ambience. Recorded on a zoom handy h4n recorder using the built-in microphones with directivity of 90°.

A thin wooden door, locked from the inside with a bolt. Someone forces it open from the outside. This is the sound of the bolt tearing through the wooden door-frame. I mixed the splintering of wood with a dull clang of metal on metal to simulate the situation. Recorded with a rode video mic attached to a camera. My first time recording a sound!.

After spending a weekend putting together a giant wardrobe (from everyones favourite swedish furniture store) for my girlfriend i thought i should reward myself by making some recordings of it. This is a close mic recording of the sliding door, i followed the top of the door (where there was the most interesting sound) the full length of the wardrobe as i opened/closed the door. For this recording i used my sennheiser mkh416 going into a sound devices mp-1 preamp and recorded to a tascam dr-680.

A high-pitched, metal windchime, sent through some granular processing software. The reel is divided into two, long halves: one with the sound playing forwards and one with it playing in reverse. This means i can easily switch from forward to reverse without tuning issues, simply by applying cv to the morphagene's 'slide' control.

This is the sound of a sheet metal that is under high tension, hitting it with a small key produced a laser fire type of sound. Recorded using a contact mic as the area is surrounded by a lot of noise, the contact mic cut out everything. These bottle caps were hurled rapid-fire at a leaning tower of jugs in my kitchen. I recorded this using an akg condenser mic, and an m-box interface. These sounds were effected in protools with flanger, delay, and reverb.

Recorded using a pair of rode lavalier microphones from a loft window. The hail stones were hitting the metal flashing (i think that it what it is called) around the window. Front channels of a 4ch-surround field recording of the interior of a german local commuter train, completely without human voices, heading from the towns of naumburg to weissenfels. The train is in full motion at the beginning of the recording, then stops, with squealing brakes and all, then starts up again and reaches full velocity. The recording was done with a zoom h2, the microphones (front) set to 90° dispersion.

A large (12 person) elevator located in an apartment building that was built as a hotel for the 1972 olympic games in munich, germany. There are four of these in the building, and they all rattle like nobody's business. In this recording, a part of the elevator arrival chime that plays on the ground floor can be heard in the beginning. Then, i walk into the elevator (two clicks in the recording here) and the doors close. Then it travels up 12 floors and the doors open with a very concerning metal rubbing sound.

The sound of the bottom of a ceramic mug, dragged over the metal grating of a coffee machine. It sounds like a sword drawn from a scabbard. Recorded using a zoom h6 in the kitchen. Applied a filter to remove unwanted low and very high frequencies. Also corrected the volume level to adjust all four recordings to the exact same level. There are some minor distracting noises - i assume from my shirt while moving the mug over the surface. Also a fan is very faintly audible in the background. The sound of a restored cast-iron pump, located beside the church in a berkshire village, which is still being used to draw water. We hear the squeaking of the pump and the splashing of the water into a large metal container. Sony psm-10.

Preparing coffee on an old wood-heated stove. You can hear wood-chopping, fire crackling, pouring of water into the pot, metallic noises from the stove. Recorded in an old house in nykarleby, finland, with atr25 stereo microphone to sony minidisc recorder.

Sounds of an 1,5 mm aluminium sheet sized 2x1,5 meters. There's also some sounds of paper the sheet was covered with. The recording starts with me sayin "blacha aluminiowa" whitch means "aluminium plate" in polish. Captured with zoom h2 @ 96khz/24-bit.

This could be used (for example) as a sci-fi bed or other background. This sound was created using a guitar recording, modified with the usss tools for the pure data programme. I granulated it and did other things but i can't remember what.

This is a fantastically clean stereo recording of a paste gong that was about 3 feet in diameter. Recorded in a very dry room with a mid-sides mic setup. Mics used were akg 414, and an oktava mk-012-01 pencil condenser.

Ascending to the second floor in my grandmother's barn. Assortment of thumps and squeaks, including a horribly loud, squeaky pulley and a pedal-operated flywheel thing, and some good footsteps going up and down a wooden staircase. Recorded on a sony pcm-d50.

Minimalist beat captured in a natural setting, probably some siding on a building being replaced. Mixes metal rattling (like screws or coins) with hammering and a low background voice. Portions have been looped and mixed, could be cut and looped in various patterns.
